Identity Theft & Check Writing
You’ve heard the stories – thieves steal your checks and “wash them”, which removes the information you wrote on the check. They then rewrite the check to “whomever”, and the forged check comes back to your bank to be processed. People’s bank accounts have been wiped out because of these thieves.
Uniball has come out with a pen that features a specially-formulated ink, that they claim cannot be “washed”. It’s the Uniball Signo 207. It comes in different colors and also in either 5mm or 7mm. I use these pens for everything, and always make sure I have one in my purse for check writing.
Granted, you can eliminate check writing by carrying a debit or credit card, however, if you do write checks, take the necessary precautions, so that you don’t become the next victim of check fraud.
These pens can be ordered online from Amazon. Click on the link and read more about the Uniball Signo 207.

Having my office organized makes it much easier for me to get my work done. I’m always looking for ways to have the things I use most often within reach, but don’t like having my desk cluttered.
Recently I got a monitor riser. It is like a “box” that you place under your monitor, and it has an open front. The front of it has a tray(s) (for paperwork) and some models have a drawer where you can keep small items. I use the drawer to store items I use all of the time, or don’t want to misplace. And, I use the tray to store forms I use frequently. That way, when the telephone rings, I have everything within my reach.
The monitor riser keeps my desk neat and organized, and puts my monitor at eye level. It’s a win-win situation.
Check out the Office Depot Supervalues. I found several monitor risers on their website that would work great.

Filed under: Archives, Cleaning Tips, Product Reviews
Goo Gone is another great product to have in your collection of cleaning products. Goo Gone is a product that removes stickers, make-up, oil, wet paint, scuff marks, shoe polish, tree sap, asphalt, candle wax, tape, glue and grease.
I have been using Goo Gone for many years now. I like the way it removes stickers from items I buy. I spray it on, let it sit, and the sticker peels off easily. If any glue remains, I reapply the Goo Gone. I have also used it to remove a dried paint drip off of a door jam. I didn’t know if it would work, but when I sprayed the Goo Gone on the dried paint and let it sit for awhile, the paint softened and I was able to remove it. Amazing.
I have also used Goo Gone to remove store stickers from shoes. Whether the sticker is placed on the inside sole of the shoe, or the bottom of the shoe, Goo Gone easily removes it.
Another feature I like about Goo Gone, is that is doesn’t have a bad odor. I have tried other products, but they smell like gasoline. Goo Gone has a citrus scent. There must be something to be said about citrus, as Orange Glo is also citrus scented. .(see my previous post Product Review: Orange Glo Wood Cleaner & Polish ) Hmmmmmmmmmmm!
Remember to read the directions on how to use Goo Gone. Also, read the warning label.
Goo Gone can be found in stores like WalMart, Home Depot, and Lowes. It’s usually by the paint supplies.

I never can leave well enough alone. Earlier today I was trying to make some adjustments on my blog “template” or “theme”. Being new to all of this, I don’t know what I did, but I messed it up pretty good.
Being a person who likes to redecorate, rearrange, and redo things, I decided to also change the theme (or the look) of my blog. I’ll try this for awhile, see how it works out; and also see how all of my loyal readers respond.
If you have a comment, either way, about the new look of my blog, let me know. I’ll take all comments into consideration.

I just found another great product. It is Orange Glo Wood Cleaner and Polish.
If you’ve been reading my blogs, you’ll realize I’ve been doing my Spring cleaning. I love finding products that don’t have fumes, make the job easier, and leave surfaces looking like new. Orange Glo Wood Cleaner and Polish is another favorite product of mine.
I use Orange Glo Wood Cleaner and Polish on all of the wood surfaces in our home. I like the way it makes the wood surfaces gleam, but they don’t feel oily or greasy. The orange scent is a great addition, as it almost makes cleaning and dusting fun…if that’s possible.
I highly recommend Orange Glo Wood Cleaner and Polish. It makes my life easier, doesn’t have nasty fumes, and leaves wood surfaces looking great.
Remember to read the warning label on this product, as well as on all of your cleaning products.

Bar Keepers Friend is a product I’ve always used to clean copper bottom pots. I kept a can of Bar Keepers Friend, under the kitchen sink, and basically only used it on my copper. I never took the time to read the label on Bar Keepers Friend, and it wasn’t until about a week ago, that I discovered more uses for Bar Keepers Friend.
As mentioned in earlier article, in my quest to get the ceramic tiles in our bathroom back to their original luster, the only product I could find to do the job was Bar Keepers Friend. Just the other day, as a fluke, I decided to use it to clean the bathroom sink, and was amazed how well it worked. I had water rings in the sink, and a few on the chrome faucets. I had always used the foam spray cleaners (hate the fumes), but they were quick and easy. With the Bar Keepers Friend, I sprinkled a little in the sink, and with just a little effort, the sink is now as shiney as it was when it was new. The faucets are now void of those nasty water rings. I love this product.
If you take the time to read the label on Bar Keepers Friend, it is great for removing rust, cleaning copper, stainless steel, fiberglass, porcelain, glass cooktops, tile and brass. With such a wide range of uses, it eliminates the need to have cans and bottles of a lot of other cleaning products. Plus, it doesn’t have fumes. How great is that?
I can always find Bar Keepers Friend at the grocery store, in the cleanser section, as well as in most variety stores, that sell cleaning products. Checkout their website at www.barkeepersfriend.com , if you can’t find Bar Keepers Friend in a store near you. They also list how to use their products, and on what surfaces to use them.
I am a loyal user of Bar Keepers Friend Cleanser and Polish. It’s my desire to share with you, products that I find that make my life easier. Hopefully, this one will work as well for you.
Warning: Remember to read the label on the can, as it is not suitable for all surfaces, nor should it be mixed with other cleaning products.

Filed under: Archives, At Work, Cleaning Tips, Decorating, Organizing
Motivation to get organized can come from many sources. My favorite source of motivation is the television show, ” Clean Sweep” which airs on TLC (The Learning Channel). I love watching them go through two rooms of a home, purge, then have a garage sale. In the meantime the crew of “Clean Sweep” is busy painting, redecorating and reorganizing the rooms. I gain so much knowledge from this show, and get great tips, as well.
I recently found another show that helps with organizing and time management. It’s named “Home Made Simple” and also airs on TLC. They have quick and easy recipes, and lots of ideas to make life less stressful.
HGTV (Home & Garden TV) has a show named “Mission Organization”. They use a professional organizer to help the homeowners.
All of these shows are filled with great tips and ideas to make life a little easier. I usually watch “Clean Sweep” and “Home Made Simple” on Saturday mornings, while I’m doing housework. They get me motivated to want to do more.

Time management seems to be an issue for a lot of people. I know it is for me. I’m always looking for ways to utilize my time better, and accomplish more in a day. My list seems never ending, and just when I think I’m getting close to the end of my list, I’m adding more to it.
So, the question is, how do we find more time in a day. We all know, a day is 24 hours-that never changes. I know I need 8 hours of sleep to feel rested and refreshed, so that leaves me with 16 hours. Sounds like a lot of time, doesn’t it? My biggest problem is, where do those 16 hours go? Some days they just seem to disappear. Poof! They’re gone, and I don’t know what I accomplished. If I were one who sat for hours and watched t.v., I would know where part of the time went, but I’m not a big t.v. watcher. I do watch t.v. to catch up on the news or to watch a favorite show,, so I have a small t.v. in the kitchen I can watch while I’m cooking or cleaning up after a meal.
My biggest discovery was that I wasn’t multitasking. Now I am. I recently bought a headset for my cordless telephone. Now, when I’m talking on the phone (provided the conversation doesn’t require my undivided attention) I can be on the computer, throw a load of laundry in the washer or dryer, dust, do my nails, walk on the treadmill, etc. I try not to do anything that’s too noisy, as that would be disruptive and disrespectful to the person I’m talking to.
When I know I’m going to at my desk for an extended period of time, or decide to go outside to do my gardening, before I start, I throw a load of laundry into the washer, throw dinner in the crockpot, or put the dishwasher going. Those chores are taking care of themselves, and I can concentrate on my work or gardening.
When I have a list of errands to run,, I take a little more time to plan my route. I try to plan it so that I’m not backtracking. With gas prices being so high, this way I also save a little on gas as well. Since I believe in making lists, I either create my list in the “order” of places I need to go, or just “number” my stops. If I have to run an errand for our business, I will also take care of a personal errand at the same time. If an errand isn’t a priority, I will often put it off for a day or two, and run errands when I have more than one place to stop.
I’ve found that by making just a few small adjustments in my daily schedule, by day’s end, I feel a sense of accomplishment. Plus I’m able to carve out time for myself, for a little bit of pampering. In this day and age where women are always taking care of others, I think it’s very important to make time to take care of ourselves, and to not feel guilty if we want to take a break away from it all.

In memory of the Virginia Tech victims, please take a moment of silence to pray for the families and friends of the victims, as they mourn the loss of their loved ones.
Their lives will never be the same, but may they find hope and comfort in knowing that people all around the world are praying for them. Their loved ones may be gone, but they will never be forgotten.
And, as you pray for the families and friends of the victims, take time to hold your own loved ones a little tigther, and remember to count your blessings.

Filed under: Archives, Diet & Health, Product Reviews
I recently discovered Fiber One cereal, and am amazed at the amount of fiber it provides. As I’ve learned, adding fiber to your diet, has many benefits. Not only does it make you feel fuller, it aids in your digestive system. Recent studies say that it helps prevent heart disease and may reduce the risk of cancer.
I’ve begun adding Fiber One to my morning shake. I use either cranberry or pomegranate juice (I dilute it with water), then I add a scoop of protein powder, a quarter cup of Fiber One, some liquid glucosomine, frozen mixed berries, and a few ice cubes. I blend it all together, and find it sustains me for several hours. (If it’s too thick, just add a little more water).
Before I purchased my first box of Fiber One, I had tasted “cookies” made out of it. You melt a 12 oz. bag of chocolate chips (I used butterscotch), then add one bag of Fiber One (there are two bags in the box). Stir the melted chips into the Fiber One, then use a large tablespoon and scoop spoonfuls of it onto a sheet of waxed paper. Allow the “cookies” to cool and then transfer them into an airtight container. Easy! I think this would be a great way to get more fiber into a child’s diet also.
The cookies are a great way to get extra fiber into your diet, however, I like the taste of the Fiber One, so I not only have it in my breakfast shake, but will eat it with milk as well. It also makes a good dry “snack” when you’re craving something crunchy.
WARNING: If you or your children are currently not eating a lot of fresh fruits, vegetables and whole grain foods, increase your intake of fiber slowly-otherwise, you might be spending just a little too much time in the bathroom.
UPDATE: Read my post on How To Get Children To Eat Vegetable, and comments from Dr. Oz on Oprah about the importance of adding fiber to your diet.
