Ecos Laundry Detergent is a great product and I have had good sucess. I have not had the gelling problem. If you washer is left with residue, it is likely from using too much detergent and probably from another brand. I would not expect Ecos to leave as much residue, because it is plant based. Also, whatever residue is left - in washer or in septic system is plant based and NOT made from OIL. Washing clothes with petrochemical based detergents just doesn't make sense!
