Filed under: Archives, At Work, Diet & Health, Saving Money, Weight Issues
If you have watched Oprah, Dr. Oz is often the guest.
When talking about diet issues, Dr. Oz and Dr. Roizen have often spoken of five food “groups” to avoid.
They are:
1) Hydrogenated oil or partially hydrogenated oil and/or trans fats

- Image via Wikipedia
2) Sugar
3) High fructose corn syrup
4) Enriched flour
5) Saturated fat
Often, you will hear some of these called “white foods”.
White foods have all of the nutrients and fiber stripped from them.
By reading labels, and making a conscientious effort to avoid these five ingredients, you will become a more informed consumer.
By reincorporating “whole foods” back into your diet, weight loss may result.
It is often written, to “shop the outer aisles of the grocery store”. That is where you will often find fresh fruits, vegetables, lean meats and whole grains.

Today, 11/5/07, Dr. Oz and Dr. Roizen, made a repeat performance on Oprah to continue discussing their anti aging plan.
More techniques to get you feeling better, were highlighted, based on what’s written in their book You: Staying Young: The Owner’s Manual for Extending Your Warranty.
Among the ideas discussed on today’s show were:
Detoxing your home of unhealthy chemicals
Increasing your bone density by using weights, and avoiding alcohol and tobacco
Incorporating Dr. Oz’s “green drink” into your diet. The green drink, includes items such as spinach , apples, celery and cucumbers.
The recipe for the green drink, is as follows:
- Image via Wikipedia
Two handfuls of fresh spinach
1 apple
1/2 cup of fresh parsley
Fresh ginger, peeled, 2-3 slices
1 cucumber
4 Stalks of celery
The juice of one fresh lemon
Wash the fruits and vegetables.
Place all ingredients in a blender.
Blend until smooth.
Do not strain the drink. Many nutrients are in the fiber/pulp.
Dr. Oz also stated to ensure you are getting all of the essential vitamins, including Vitamin D.

Did you see Oprah on November 1, 2007?
Dr. Oz, who has become a familiar face on Oprah, made another guest appearance.
The premise of the show was built around a new book written by Dr. Oz and Dr. Mike Roizen, called : You: Staying Young: The Owner’s Manual for Extending Your Warranty
Speaking of aging, Dr. Oz stated that stress is the number one “ager”.
Dr. Oz gave the audience methods of reducing negative stress, which included: breathing correctly, using meditation, prayer, and practicing techniques such as tai chi or chi-gong (similar to tai chi).
Obviously, diet and exercise, were added to the list of stress reducers.
Check out Oprah.com , for great links to more information on the show. Learn how to stay young, reduce stress, and to sharpen you mind.
What surprised me, was when Dr. Oz stated, that if we do what we love, our stress levels decrease.
One more reason to follow your passion.
